our fellowship program for incontinence and voiding dysfunction

Metro Urology has sponsored a clinical fellowship in Urinary Incontinence and Voiding Dysfunction since 1998. As the name implies, this area within urology focuses on particular problems such as urinary leakage, pelvic prolapse, pelvic pain, and neurologic abnormalities of bladder function. A fellowship program is an opportunity for a fully trained urologist, who has completed medical school, internship and residency training, and is otherwise qualified to practice as a urologist. Such an individual may be interested in pursuing further training in a subspecialty field within urology in order to gain special expertise above and beyond that of a general urologist. Other examples of subspecialties within urology for which fellowship training may be offered include pediatrics, oncology, infertility, laparoscopic surgery and stone disease, and kidney transplantation. Other female urology fellowships that are available in the United States can be viewed at http://www.sufuorg.com/fellowships/programs.aspx.

Our fellowship is directed by Dr. Steven Siegel. Physicians in the Center for Continence Care have enjoyed a national and international reputation for excellence, have been actively involved in education, research, and publications within our field, and are recognized as leaders in their subspecialty.

We are fortunate to attract many outstanding urologists who wish to spend an additional year of training (beyond the 5-6 years already required to be a urologist). This is a competitive opportunity, with applicants applying years in advance of the start of training. Among them, we choose two fellows for each year of our program. Previous graduating fellows are among the leading experts in the field of Incontinence and Voiding Dysfunction in their own communities. These include Drs. Elisabeth Pascheivitz, Jyothi Kesha, Marc Hodroff, Suzette Sutherland, Tamara Lewis, Ann Lavers, Ronald Glinski, and Steven Mindrup.

Current fellows include:

  • Dr. Jannah Thompson
  • Dr. Elizabeth Williams
